"SHO Gursewak Singh has been suspended for negligence, as despite repeated complaints from the victim's family he did bother to register a case or start an inquiry. A special investigation team has been set up to probe into the matter," he added.
The arrested accused are Deepak, Sonu Kumar, Manga, Roop Singh, Rani and Sonu.
According to the girl's statement recorded before a judicial magistrate at Malout on Friday, Deepak, Sonu and Manga abducted her from her unclea's residence on June 4 and sold her to Roop, a resident of Chhapianwali near Malout in Muktsar district. The latter took the girl to Bathinda to his mother-in-law Rani's house and raped her there. Four days later, Rani took the girl to Sriganganagar and sold her to an unidentified man. The victim was raped by different men before she finally managed to escape and reach Malout on October 16.
